This is a 7.25-hour per day Food Service Assistant position at Jolane Middle School starting January 3, 2022. The work calendar is up to 184 days in a full school year. 

General Job Description: Under general supervision, assists in any area of food preparation in a school kitchen in a sanitary and orderly manner and does related work as required. Decisions and determinations are based on clearly defined procedures or instructions or on well-defined rules and regulations. Non-routine phases of the work are referred to the Food Service Lead for advice. Regular contact with students, school staff and the public can be expected.

Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent; ability to obtain and maintain a Food Handlers card; ability to pass a pre-employment physical/agility screening

Experience: Experience in quantity food preparation and kitchen maintenance is desirable but not required; be able to demonstrate the ability to acquire necessary skills to function in the kitchen

Qualifications

Knowledge of:

• Methods of preparing quality food, including salads, sandwiches and simple desserts.
• Basic care and use of kitchen utensils and equipment.
• USDA National School Lunch Program and School Breakfast Program.
• Basic safety and sanitation procedures or requirements.
• Proper methods of weighing and measuring of ingredients for preparing food in large quantities.

Ability to:

• Prepare a quality product in large quantity in an efficient and orderly manner.
• Adjust recipes to meet needs and maintain correct portion control.
• Get along well with the children and maintain cooperative relationships with fellow
• Prepare salads, sandwiches and other foods.
• Operate equipment found in school kitchens.
• Learn basic computer operations.
• Deal with confidential material and handle money in a trustworthy manner.
• Deal courteously with difficult people.
• Supervise student helpers.
• Understand and carry out oral and written directions.
• Learn meal pattern requirements and how to recognize a reimbursable meal.
